The brittle very rare red wax Scinde Dawk issued in 1852 is thought to be not just the first stamp of India, but also the whole of Asia. The white Scinde Dawk – the commonest of the three is still very scarce in fine of better condition, partly due to the colour of the paper. The Blue shade ‘dawk’ is a rarity.
The embossed design is iconic in Indian philately, hence our adoption of the symbol as part of our AIA logo.
