Provenance Ex-Desai Auction 1948 lot 692 (Plate V) – Ex-Burus 1963 lot 324 - 4th Printing Head Die I [Deep blue shade] Frame Die II – Close spacing/setting watermark position 6-12 reversed sheet position 1-7 – PM type 4 Bombay postal sub-region ‘1’ Bombay City - Beacause of the way 4a sheets were separated vertical pairs are considerably scarcer than horizontal examples - In the Desai auction this item had slightly larger uneven margins trimmed straight by 1963 in the Burus auction - Sheet position 13 upper frame visible at foot!

4 margins (3 large) for printing quite attractive condition cream paper fractional old gum residue stain on reversed mentioned for accuracy - upper stamp faintest horizontal wrinkle very dificult to see possibly pressed. Based on the upper postmark hard edge, it seems it was folded at some stage on the letter sent?!
